Weekly:
Clinical Pathology (CP) Conference: A faculty led didactic with topics repeating every three years and covering hematopathology, informatics, transfusion medicine, microbiology, chemistry, and molecular pathology.
Call Conference: The “on call” resident presents and covers topics of calls over the past week, how to deal with difficult calls, quality improvement, and topics relevant to CP training.
First Year Resident Conference: Faculty and fellow led slide review covering common and important surgical pathology topics held at the multi headed scope.
Anatomic Pathology (AP) Conference: A faculty led didactic with topics repeating every two-three years and covering major surgical pathology topics of all major organ systems. Surgical Pathology Unknown Slide Conference (“Lumps and Bumps”): Faculty led unknown slide conference.
Pathology Seminar Series: Department-wide conference covering new innovations in basic science and clinical pathology.
Microbiology Plate Rounds: Resident and faculty led interdepartmental conference covering infectious disease cases at the University of New Mexico Hospital (UNMH) and Veteran’s Administration Medical Center (VAMC), with review of plates or slides for selected cases.
Neuropathology Gross Conference: Faculty, fellow, and resident led examination of brains from challenging autopsy cases.
Neuropathology Slide Review: Faculty led review of histology from autopsy cases with neuropathologic findings.
New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) Consensus Conference: Faculty led review of challenging cases at the Office of the Medical Investigator. This conference is also attended by faculty and trainees from the New Mexico Poison Control Center for toxicology consultations.
Monthly:
Gross Conference: Residents on surgical pathology at the UNM, VAMC, Office of the Medical Investigator, or Presbyterian Hospital present interesting cases and gross specimens for differential diagnosis and discussion of pathology.
Journal Club: Faculty and resident led review of an AP or CP topic in the current literature.
Neuropathology Conference: Neuropathology faculty led didactic or unknown slide conference.
Cytology Conference: Faculty or fellow led didactic or unknown slide conference.
CTTR: Resident led review of California Tissue and Tumor Registry (CTTR) unknown microscopic slides.
Citywide Hematology Conference: Hematopathology faculty, fellow, and resident led discussion of current cases at hospitals throughout the city.
Tumor Marker Conference: Hematopathology faculty and fellow led didactic conference.
Annual Series:
Lab Management Lecture Series: Didactic series of lectures given by faculty and management from TriCore Reference Laboratories, UNMH, and Presbyterian on the basics of laboratory management.
Robbins Review: Resident led review of chapters in Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease, held during July and August.
