Dr. George Tegos Awarded Multimillion-Dollar Grant

Pathology Research Assistant Professor, Dr. George Tegos, of the Center for Molecular Discovery was featured this week in an Albuquerque Journal article detailing his efforts to identify novel compounds acting to disable antibiotic efflux pumps in certain highly pathogenic and deadly bacteria. he U.S. Defense Threat Reduction Agency recently funded this research to focus on developing therapeutic drugs for two potentially weaponizable bacteria, Francisella tularensis and Burkholderia pseuodmallei, By screening millions of compounds, this work has application to development of novel therapeutics in general. The Center for Molecular Discovery is directed by Dr. Larry Sklar and is located in the new Innovation, Discover, and Training Complex (IDTC.)
