Von Samedi, M.D., Ph.D.
The UNM Office of Education at the School of Medicine announced twelve new Medical Education Scholars (MES) for 2014-2016. Von G. Samedi, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor in Pathology, was inducted into the MES program. The purpose of this program is to ensure a continuum of educational leadership and scholarship for the UNM School of Medicine (SOM) and its departments. Faculty members selected for this 24-month, part-time program develop their skills in academic leadership, curriculum development, teaching and assessment, the change process, and educational research and scholarship. This program is designed for faculty members who wish to make education a primary area of responsibility.
A new group of scholars is inducted each year through a competitive application process. Selection criteria are based on an applicant's roles and interests in education, how the MES program will support his/her professional goals, description of an educational question that he/she would like to develop into a scholarly project, and support from his/her chair or division chief to participate in MES activities. The program involves participation in a series of integrative seminars and hands-on workshops and the development of a curriculum plan, scholarly project, and educational portfolio, within the context of a professional peer group.
