Multi-Institutional Research Contract Awarded: George Tegos PhD, Principal Investigator

Dr. George Tegos (UNM Department of Pathology) faculty is the principal investigator leading a multi-disciplinary, multi-year and multi-institutional infectious disease project, recently funded by The Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA). The novel project entitled "Targeting Multidrug Efflux Systems in Francisella tularensis and Burkholderia psenudomallei" is a translational venture to identify efflux pump inhibitors for clinical development in biological pathogens. UNM Center for Molecular Discovery and UNM Center for Infectious Disease and Immunity combined their unique expertise, with that of notable scientific leaders at 3 other institutions to achieve this award.

Additional UNM Investigators include Larry Sklar (Pathology), Tudor Oprea (Internal Medicine), Christian Bologa (Internal Medicine), Terry Wu (Internal Medicine), and Julie Lovchik (Internal Medicine)

The subcontractor participants include Eleftherios Mylonakis (Brown University, Infectious Diseases), Herbert Schweizer (Colorado State University, Infectious Diseases), Richard Houghten and Clemencia Pinilla (Torrey Pines Institute of Molecular Studies).
