Molecular Pathology Services

Before deciding on the technologies you require, please contact Dr. Jin Wu (505-272-3059 or JWu@salud.unm.edu).

Next Generation Sequencing

  1. Molecular Pathology provides all services related to next generation sequencing to the pathologists in the Department. For UNM personnel outside the Department, we request you to contact the Analytical and Translational Genomics Shared Resource (ATG) for further inquiries.

  2. The Ion Proton instrument is capable of producing high throughout data at the whole genome, exome, RNA-seq and Epigenetic data.

  3. All projects need to be carefully planned with regards to the Ion Proton chip requirements, sample requirements. Please contact Molecular Pathology personnel before initiating a project.

Bioinformatics Services

  1. A major component of any NGS project is the use of bioinformatics services. The molecular pathology lab can provide different levels of services related to bioinformatics analysis for a nominal service fee on an hourly basis.

Molecular Biology

  1. DNA and RNA isolations from multiple types of specimens (e.g., fresh/frozen blood, transformed cells, frozen tissue, paraffin embedded tissue); including quantitation and quality assessment of the RNA.

  2. Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification from DNA or RNA targets, including primer design, PCR optimization, set up PCR and RT-PCR, and gel electrophoresis for quality assurance.

  3. Gene expression quantitation (real time PCR): including primer design.

  4. DNA sequencing, design primers, assemble and compare sequences, and perform sequence alignments.

  5. Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH)

  6. Cloning: plasmid DNA cloning and TA cloning.

  7. Allele identification and HLA and disease association studies by sequence specific polymerase chain reaction or DNA sequencing.

  8. Site directed mutagenesis.

  9. Southern and Western blots.

  10. Tissue culture.

  11. Preparation of EBV transformed lymphocytes.

If any service in which you are interested is not listed, please contact Molecular Pathology and we will do our best to accommodate your needs.
